Not as well behaved as Baystate Blue, not as bright as other vibrant pinks. Bleedthrough problems, bleedout problems, and holy feathering, Batman! Skip this one—there are much better bright pinks out there.

One of my favorite brown inks, this is fantastically well behaved, just the rest of Waterman’s inks.

Diamine Vermillion is a bright yet surprisingly deep ink, and I like it.

Last night I emailed J. Herbin expressing my disappointment that the original formulation of Rouge Hematite is not made anymore, and this morning I was surprised to find a response email waiting for me. I’m very happy to say that it looks like the awesome original formula is coming back!!! 😀

Here’s the text if the email:

The manufacturer is going to bring back the original red ink. I do not have
a time table yet! Thank you for writing; I am forwarding your mail to Herbin right now.

Thank you J. Herbin for listening to us! You’ve made me a very happy boy today.

I’ve emailed J. Herbin and expressed my disappointment at their removing of the golden particulates that made the original formula of the inks so unique and beautiful. I know there have always been detractors to the look, but there are more people who love it than hate it.

If you love the original formula and want your sheen back, email J. Herbin and let them know!

Here’s the response I received from J. Herbin regarding my question about their dulling down of Rouge Hematite:

Yes, we had to take the gold like die out of the formula as it had a
tendency to thicken too fast and there was a danger of clogging some
fountain pens.
I’m very sorry.

I guess I’ll be taking only tiny sips from my bottle of the original formula like people do with Parker Penman Sapphire and MB British Racing Green…

*le sigh*
