I’m incredibly excited to be debuting my first SPONSORED ink review! The ink for this review was graciously provided by JetPens.com. This particular ink is a very bright, happy light(ish) green with good shading and consistent performance. You can find it for sale on JetPens.com, right here.

Here are some comparisons with other green inks:

And some not so green (disregard the typo about blue ink):

And on some common papers:

And lastly, the torture tests. Though it fought admirably against acetone and alcohol, it didn’t fair well at all against water and ammonia (and, of course, bleach obliterated it, but that’s hardly uncommon for most inks). The faint writing on the bottom of the page reads “Ten Minute Soak”. Obviously this ink wasn’t meant for Seattle.

So, if I had to nitpick, what would I change about it?

Well, I’m a big sheen fan, so obviously I’d love it to have more of that, but the fact that it doesn’t isn’t a negative in and of itself. I have found that, with the exception of their iron gall inks, Rohrer & Klingner inks seem to be more prone to feathering than most other “up market” inks, even on Rhodia. Feathering is one thing, but bleedout just annoys the heck out of me (see the “Brause” sample). Again, this seems pretty common with R&K inks.

I like to again thank JetPens for making this review possible! I’ve been a loyal customer of theirs for years, and in fact my very first bottle of fountain ink was purchased from them—J. Herbin Vert Réséda (along with several Brause nibs that thoroughly annoyed me until I figured out how to play them like Charlie Daniels plays his fiddle). I don’t take recommending online shops lightly, and there are few that I will do business with on a regular basis, and JetPens has been one of those, years before I was contacted about a sponsored review. 🙂

Not as well behaved as Baystate Blue, not as bright as other vibrant pinks. Bleedthrough problems, bleedout problems, and holy feathering, Batman! Skip this one—there are much better bright pinks out there.

LOVE this ink. It was the third bottle I ever bought. It softens on the page after a few days, as delicate as the name would suggest.

I’m not an enormous fan of very bright/light inks like Helianthus, but this color in particular is just gorgeous.

Last night I emailed J. Herbin expressing my disappointment that the original formulation of Rouge Hematite is not made anymore, and this morning I was surprised to find a response email waiting for me. I’m very happy to say that it looks like the awesome original formula is coming back!!! 😀

Here’s the text if the email:

The manufacturer is going to bring back the original red ink. I do not have
a time table yet! Thank you for writing; I am forwarding your mail to Herbin right now.

Thank you J. Herbin for listening to us! You’ve made me a very happy boy today.

I’ve emailed J. Herbin and expressed my disappointment at their removing of the golden particulates that made the original formula of the inks so unique and beautiful. I know there have always been detractors to the look, but there are more people who love it than hate it.

If you love the original formula and want your sheen back, email J. Herbin and let them know!

Here’s the response I received from J. Herbin regarding my question about their dulling down of Rouge Hematite:

Yes, we had to take the gold like die out of the formula as it had a
tendency to thicken too fast and there was a danger of clogging some
fountain pens.
I’m very sorry.

I guess I’ll be taking only tiny sips from my bottle of the original formula like people do with Parker Penman Sapphire and MB British Racing Green…

*le sigh*
